Walk for the Recognition of Sign Languages

The “I Can Sign” Program is the flagship initiative of CODAH (Champions of Deaf Awareness and Humanity Initiative), launched in 2019 by our founder. Inspired by her lived experience in a Deaf family, the program was created to address the communication gap between the Deaf and hearing communities and to challenge the biases both conscious and unconscious that fuel stigma against Deaf individuals.

This is a flagship early intervention program designed to support Deaf and hard-of-hearing children aged 0-5. The program ensures that these children receive the early language exposure, communication tools, and family-centered support needed for holistic growth, inclusion, and lifelong success.

The Walk for the Recognition of Sign Languages is an annual advocacy event organized by Collaborating Hands to commemorate the International Day of Sign Languages. The walk brings together Deaf and hearing individuals from across Nigeria to demand the official recognition of Nigerian Sign Language (NSL) in education, workplaces, and public services.
